The Minotaur Is Talking

Am I still the only one who's enjoying the David S. Rosenthal administration of Gilmore Girls?  What was wrong with last night's episode?  Not a whole Hell of a lot.  It was funny.  The town meeting was especially good.  We got follow-through on the Logan-might-be-a-scumbag storyline that consumes me so thoroughly: Lorelai still doesn't trust him.  Awesome.  Best of all, Rosenthal and co., having gracefully redeemed Luke during the first half of the season, and less gracefully (come on, give me that) liberated Lorelai from the botched marriage to Christopher, are rushing us to a Lorelai-Luke reunion.  -- Peter

The AV Club just posted an interview with Ron Moore.  It's worth checking out, even if you're not a fan of Battlestar Galactica (why aren't you?), for the weirdly messianic portrait that accompanies the interview. 

I Miss the WB . . .

Gilmore Girls returns tomorrow night.  I have news about next season, as well.  According to Michael Ausiello, the show may return for a shortened eighth season.  I don't know how I feel about that, except that I kind of doubt it will happen: I'm guessing the show is not cheap (the recurring cast alone . . . ) and the CW seems to be doing much better with its reality shows than it is with its scripted ones. 

Workers Playtime

This is the heinous project I was working on last week and this is me, wearing it:

I look happy because I still can't believe I cracked it.  I can't really explain the problems without going into a lot of knitting minutiae.  Long story short: I have fat, clumsy fingers.  I had to work almost the entire pattern backwards in order to account for them. 

Drive

I am going to watch this on Sunday.  I can't tell if it's going to be good or not.  I have liked other shows Tim Minear's been involved with, but I'm not sure that his involvement means that a show is necessarily going to be good (see The Inside).  It's a decent cast, though, and last night on Fox Movie Channel I saw a special on the fx involved, which made it look pretty cool. 

Gayer than Project Runway

Hi Pete!

I can't wait to discuss Shear Genius, which, um, isn't, but is possibly the feyest show in the history of the world -- it makes Project Runway look butch, don't you think? I can't remember everything that sent me, but I did like the man in the sequined head scarf saying he wasn't gay, then going on to describe how GORGEOUS this other guy is, offer to pinch his nipples, and try to cast him as his model. Oh my word. Mostly, though, I didn't like it so much -- nothing for me to borrow, as I'm unlikely to attempt a rat's nest faux hawk -- and it drove me slightly crazy that the judges don't know the difference between "technicality" and "technique". What did you think?

Plan Accordingly

FX is running a The Riches marathon tomorrow night (Friday, 4/13) at 9:00 PM  -- all five episodes that have aired so far -- and I encourage you to watch them, if you have the time/disk space.  I'm guessing we're about half-way through the season now?  It's a good show.  My response to the pilot was a little off -- I'm actually really enjoying Minnie Driver.  At this point, she's stealing the show from Eddie Izzard.  Watch and let me know what you think.  -- Peter

"We Love Sanjaya"

Here's an interview with Dave Della Terza of Vote for the Worst.   It's a mostly interesting interview -- I'm only kind of watching American Idol this season, but I think the way people's responses to Sanjaya have evolved is neat.  First, he was reviled, and now even his fiercest critics are embracing him, not because he's getting better, but because of some kitsch factor it seems to have taken a while for people to recognize.

Remember when Kevin Reilly said, "First be best, then be first."* or whatever?  Well, Kevin, the trick to that isn't just developing good series, but promoting them and keeping them on the air.  This?  This is not helping.
