The first issue of Dark Horse's Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season Eight, written by Joss Whedon and penciled by Georges Jeanty, came out this Wednesday. In pursuit of it, we visited four or possibly five cities looking for a comic book store, before learning that there's actually a really famous one (Comic Relief in Berkeley) less than a mile from where I'm staying. And now I don't have anything to say about the comic. I think it's pretty good. I think there's something interesting about a show jumping media, particularly to the medium that heavily influenced it in the first place. Issue one reminded me a lot of Grant Morrison and Frank Quitely's work on The Authority and New X-Men -- similar use of single-pane pages for the big reveals. I know everyone does that, but I think Whedon and Jeanty do it the same way. And that's as deep as my comic book geekiness goes. -- Peter
