I saw Children of Men over the weekend. It's the best thing I've seen in a really long time, the best end-of-the-world movie since at least 28 Days Later. Kind of similar to that in that you really care about the characters and the story, enough to get over the this-is-really-depressing problem and the I-don't-like-looking-at-rotting-cattle problem.
I guess it's no mystery why we have so many recent additions to the apocalyptic/post-apocalyptic genre, but I do think it's interesting how different all those additions are. If I had the energy and if this were something other than a blog, I'd probably try to compare and contrast say Lost and Jericho, or better yet Lost and another equally good television show -- Battlestar Galactica? Instead, I am going to put in a few more plugs for the best, most-overlooked entries, two on-going comic book series, Y: The Last Man and The Walking Dead. Both are available in a series of relatively cost-effective graphic novels and might even be at your local library. I think I've posted about both of them here already, so . . . yeah. -- Peter
