Dear Jenny,
Ugh. I'm still not feeling OK about last night's Project Runway finale. What did you think? Am I alone in just really not getting Jeffrey's collection?
It seems to me that the judges are still wrestling with something that was a big issue last season: how do we judge fashion? Is it an art form or a business? I think that this is something they still haven't figured out and that Uli paid the price for that. It's like it was a strike against her that her collection was commercial. After giving last season's top prize to Chloe Dao over the more innovative -- in an artistic sense -- Santino, they could not repeat themselves or risk cheapening the whole enterprise, in their own minds. That's my theory, anyway.
I also thought that Jeffrey's win was a slap in the face to Nazri. Marilinda is a perfectly good model, but Nazri was obviously more deserving of the win. I could see that and I don't care about models, at all.
Of course, everyone involved is going to be fine. I do believe that Uli was right when she said that second place was where she belonged. She's not going to be locked into the deal with I.N.C., she won't have to move to New York. I'm sure her career will take off: she made some beautiful clothes that people will want. Ditto Laura and Michael.
Other thoughts about the episode . . . For some reason, Chloe and Daniel Vosovich were sitting with Elisabeth Hasselbeck. Daniel has not updated his look since last season -- which was only a few months ago, so never mind. I didn't see anyone from season 1 in the audience: was Jay too busy with his own show or do you think he didn't want to see Heidi? Can't say I'd blame him if that were the case.
Well? Thoughts?
Love,
Pete
Dear Glow:
You are not alone. Uli was far more deserving than Jeffrey. "Inspired by Japanese ghost stories" What? Is that what's tattooed on his neck? Here at Murphy Manor, we had a theory that Jeffrey's son was a small child actor brought in to make the odious Jeffrey more sympathetic. I was rooting for Michael, but I thought his final collection was a huge disappointment. Why did everything lace up? And then there was that thing that laced up AND was done in Pepto-Bismol pink. Ick. You win, BTW. After weeks of reading your posts, I am now hooked on Project Runway.
