Dear Jenny,
As often happens, I wish I had taken notes during last night's episode of Project Runway. There was just too much that was either very good, very bad, or just plain fascinating.
Although we didn't have an incoherent, drunken Lupe moment, this reunion was certainly on a par with last season's. The Tim Gunn lexicon segment alone was worth the entire hour. I had to watch that twice: once to take in Tim's awesome vocabulary, the second time to enjoy the looks of incomprehension on the designers' faces. Angela here was particularly brilliant.
Running second for me, in terms of quality, was the part where the designers got to confront the judges. When that segment started, I thought, "Yes!" As I've said before, this season, more than previous ones, I've really questioned the judges. I wanted to see them defend themselves. And did they! I like Angela, I really do, but yes, yes, yes, give Michael Kors yet another chance to dump on Jubilee Jumbles. By all means allow Nina Garcia to barely bother concealing her mirth at the hideousness of that creation. I'm not a mean or spiteful person, but I'm human!
Keith Michael vs. Reality . . . this part made me sad. I forgot that while Tim was kicking Keith out, Kayne and Vincent were just lying on the bed next to them. That was weird.
Vincent Libretti vs. Fluff 'n' Fold . . . also not that great, except for the shots of Kayne and Michael eavesdropping.
Michael and the Oversized Novelty Check . . . no suspense here, but charming nonetheless.
The things I'm having the most trouble keeping track of were all the great non-verbal moments, such as Robert's priceless "Bitch!" take when Malan's Fashion Week show was announced. I've been trying to duplicate one of Laura's eyerolls all day (and am consequently light-headed right now, no kidding). Angela's careful non-responses to Jeffrey's various provocations (and prevarications) were also entertaining. Oh, and I'm still untangling the various layers of crazy exhibited in Vincent's responses to everyone else calling him out on how crazy he is.
What did you think? Do you wish the producers had gotten the designers liquored up beforehand? Did I miss anything?
Love,
-- Pete
