Dear Jenny,
So I can stop worrying. Everyone goes to Olympus Fashion Week. I have to say, "Well-played, Bravo publicity hacks. Well-played." I was sure, when news leaked that Laura Bennett had been throwing a lot of money around at Mood, and then when we heard that Laura had accused Jeffrey of outsourcing his sewing, that Michael or Uli could advance to Bryant Park, not both. Then Uli won. Oh, crap.
I don't know what I was going to do, had Michael been eliminated. I've reached a real oppositional place with the judges this season. I felt like they were implacable during this week's runway judging. They criticized Laura for being too consistent; they criticized Jeffrey and Michael for not being consistent enough. Uli did something slightly different -- a shorter hemline -- and they act like she's reinvented herself, only not in the confusing, bad way of Jeffrey and Michael. Seriously, had this week mattered at all, had there been actual consequences for Michael or Laura, I would have done something really bad.
Anyway, the rest of the episode . . . Uli stole Nazri from Michael. That made the tedious model ceremony actually kind of interesting (albeit not "mutherfucking walk-off" interesting). We had never seen Uli act that ruthless before and I have to give her credit: Nazri is clearly the best model left. Uli was right to steal her. Nina has a nice office . . . Despite the consequence-free outcome and the haphazard judging, this was actually an unusually good challenge. First, it actually tested skills that the designers will need in the real world. Second, it was a real challenge: clearly, it was difficult, after the constraints imposed by all the other challenges, to be handed so much freedom. The photography diversion was pointless, but kind of funny. I liked the bit with Laura trying to photograph Camilla in the elevator.
Next week is the reunion, or, judging from the previews, Project Keith Michael. Can't wait.
Love,
-- Pete
