Dear Jenny,
I have a confession to make. I didn't actually see much of last night's Project Runway: after about the 500th time Vincent used the phrase "get me off," I blacked out. I think I went to my inner happy place, but I'm not sure. The next thing I knew, that boring show about the personal trainers was on and I couldn't feel my face. (Oddly, I had not stopped knitting.)
Seriously, I was shocked by the results of last night's challenge. Yes, Alison's dress was far and away the worst thing on the runway, but she's so cute! Doesn't that count for anything? I wonder what would have happened if she had told the judges about her problems with material -- like Kayne did. It seems draconian to punish her for failing to know how to work with cardboard because when will that skill ever serve her? -- this is a competition to pick the best designer, not the best pre-school teacher. Plus, Vincent was awful on the runway -- he was Santino-level argumentative. Plus he defended the shoe to Tim, earlier in the episode. (I can't stand it when they do that.) Plus times 100: "get me off." Ugh.
I was shocked, too, that Michael won. I know. I still love him. I think I love him even more in his aviator sunglasses (even though I generally disapprove of people wearing sunglasses indoors, ROBERT), but no way was his ensemble better than Jeffrey's dress.
Early in the episode, when the gang went to that art supply store, for a second, I thought, "Oh. I wonder why they're not going to Pearl," and then remembered my most recent visit there: I went looking for craft paint, but left empty-handed. The shelves were empty, aside from a jar of tempera with a cracked lid and a flat of tongue-depressors. What is with that store?
What was up with that Laura v. Vincent thing at the end? That felt really poorly edited and I wondered whether something else happened to incite Laura's attack -- maybe she was as sick of Vincent's . . . um . . . enthusiasm for his creation as I was.
What did you think about the episode? Did you feel as violated as I did? Do you have any guesses about the final three? (Mine: Michael, Uli, Laura) More importantly, do you have any horror stories about Pearl Art & Craft you want to share?
Love,
-- Pete
