Dear Jenny,
I did not manage to watch the premiere of Project Runway until last night, due to an ongoing cable issue. God, it's good to be back. Heidi, Tim, Nina, all looking good . . . Michael Kors, you I missed least of all, but I'm starting to come around. Some of those lines last night just completely sent me.
Do you have any favorites among the designers? I'm in love with Laura Bennett. I love her whole look and the business about not dressing down, ever, cracked me up. I'm tentatively fond of Keith Michael -- he's arrogant, yeah, but with good enough reason it seems, judging from that dress, and he's easy on the eyes. Endearingly, he considers Queen Elizabeth a snappy dresser. (I was assuming he meant QE2, but now it occurs to me he must have meant that one that Cate Blanchett played that time -- not as funny.) I like Robert Best, too. I think I've already spent enough time with Malan Breton.
I was not that sad to see Stacey Estrella go. I liked that dress just fine, but I didn't like how Stacey looted the apartment -- she took things just in order to keep them out of the hands of the other designers. That's the sort of thing Wendy Pepper would do.
We've got a lot of Chloes Daos this time around -- talented designers who are more concerned with promoting their current businesses, rather than jumping into the New York couture world. You know what? I'm fine with that, as long as they make pretty things week after week and respect Tim.
What do you think about the makeup of the court? Last season, my theory was that Nina was the most influential judge; this season, I'm starting to take Heidi's influence more seriously. It sure looks like she's the facilitator, of the three, and that's a lot of power: she can control the conversation. As long as the others understand what she's trying to say.
Well, what did you think?
Love,
-- Pete
