Dear Peter,
I don't think there was ever a time I much cared for PBS. They're just doing it all wrong. If a network is going to be viewer-supported, you need to give the viewers what they want (i.e. shows about promiscuous teens, obvy) and not simpering British sitcoms from the 80s (Are You Being Served, I'm talking to you.) I did love 1800 House and Prairie House, of course (remember when you and Daniel and I were going to apply to be on the latter, pretending to be nineteenth century Mormon sister wives?) but Ranch House butted up against reruns of My Super Sweet Sixteen so forget that.
That said, I did see a good PBS-y documentary at the SFIFF the other day: They Chose China, about the American POWs who decided to stay in China at the end of the Korean War rather than return to McCarthy's America. It was really wonderful, so charming and interesting that I didn't mind that it was educational, and that it lacked promiscious teens entirely. Maybe that's because it was produced in Canada, the country that brought us DeGrassi Junior High. Anyway, highly recommended.
So did you see the O.C. last night? How much do you love Willa Holland?
Off to my lipstick party,
Jenny
