This article (free registration required) in today's New York Times makes the new lineup at The View look like any even juicier story than we thought. I did wonder, almost immediately, what Star would think about Rosie taking over, just because it seems like Star is the Helen Lawson in this particular show. Someone with as big a name, as devoted a following, and as much talk show experience, as Rosie, would tend to threaten that. I did not realize that Rosie has been making snide comments about Star and Al. Of especial interest in the Times article is the business about Rosie's interview with Diane Sawyer. Note that it occurred after Rosie knew that she had the View job.
Also of interest is the language Barbara Walters uses in talking about Star's future with the show. Is Star being shown the door and if so, why? Think about how successful this show is and how much the success of the show has been dependent on the core hosts. It seems like, after losing Meredith Vieira, ABC, and Walters in particular, would be doing whatever they can to keep Star and Joy Behar happy. Maybe Star has already said she's leaving? That's the only thing that makes any sense. Yeah, I kind of believe the reports I read about Star being maybe not the easiest person to get along with, and certainly the wedding alone was enough to set my teeth on edge, but these people have worked together for what? Almost nine years? It seems like if this really were a personality-based ouster, something like it would have happened years ago. -- Peter
P.S. Yeah, yeah. Debbie Matenopoulos. Different deal, though. That was more like a mercy-killing.
P.P.S. Lisa Ling -- ditto.
