Here's the kind of obvious meta-statement: Katie Couric's jump from NBC to CBS is hardly news. That said, I find this commentary from Ken Tucker pretty on.
(For those non-EW-fetishists, Tucker was Entertainment Weekly's excellent television critic until a few years ago, when he jumped to New York magazine, to review movies. Now he's back at EW, but I'm not sure in what capacity. This is one of the few signs I have that the magazine is going to be OK. The other signs are the continued employment of Dalton Ross and Josh Wolk and this really very astute 24 critique.)
The real news, of course, is the corresponding shake-up at The View. How will Star react? Isn't the Today gig much bigger than the E! job Ms. Jones Reynolds recently lost? Who will replace Meredith? And will Meredith bring her brand of frank talk about her lack of undergarments to her interactions with Matt Lauer? -- Peter
Dear Peter,
I personally do not want to see Meredith Viera moving up the ladder of success on daily tv programming. I would prefer to see her duking it out in the basement with Star Jones on "The View." I've been holding a grudge against Meredith since she dissed my favorite cookbook, "Mini-Mart a la Carte." Puleeze, Meredith, can't you take a joke? Good thing I don't watch early daytime tv anyhow or I might have to rip the antenna off my rooftop. Love, Judy
P.S. Happy Birthday, belatedly. I hope you had a great day and were spoiled royally.
