Since last we left off, there's been a bit of action on both of the soaps.
On As the World Turns, Jade called Kevin and asked him to meet her, then took off, so that Luke and Kevin could be together. Kevin was not that pleased to see Luke -- Kevin's been distancing himself from his former best friend, ever since Holden started threatening him. Luke and Kevin argued, but no real information was communicated. Holden walked in and saw something that sure looked like a lovers' spat. It's interesting the way Luke and Kevin's relationship is pretty clearly demarcated as innocent, yet the other characters are constantly misinterpreting the boys' closeness. This way, the writers have it both ways: they're not presenting actual gay intimacy on daytime television (because that would be shocking); instead, they're creating an atmosphere that's both salacious (because Holden and Jade think it is) and safe (because the viewers know it's not).
More of the same: later, Holden fantasized about confronting Luke about his sexuality. He imagined two scenarios, both of them bad. In one, Luke admits he's gay but accuses Holden of being homophobic; in the other, Luke insists he's straight and rejects his father. This way, we don't have any actual movement forward, in terms of story; instead, we get the illusion of it.
Meanwhile, over on General Hospital, Georgie (Lindze Letherman) tried to fix her cousin Lucas up with out and proud Guy Richardson (Nicholas DiNardo), but neither boy took the bait. Guy did take the bait left out by Frank, the same gaybasher who had flirted with and then assaulted Lucas earlier this year. After Lucas, his cousin Lulu (Julie Berman), and Dillon rescued Guy and took him to the hospital, Lucas decided to support Guy in pressing charges against Frank. This was a big step for Lucas, who had previously concealed the beating Frank gave him. Consequently, we all learned something about self-esteem and taking back the night.
